MMRSC is a small yet growing Mini Rex Specialty club that is 'Regional' in nature. This means that we do not have to hold shows only in one state, but can instead cover a fairly large area of the north east with our Specialty Shows.
Specialty Clubs need money to pay for sanctions for their shows, unless the sanction fees are GRACIOUSLY paid for by members. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, and with that, we charge entry fees to help cover these costs. In order for us to hold a show, we must have a building, judges, and judging equipment. For us as a small club, we do not have the means for these items, and must instead hold our shows with other Clubs who have this equipment of their own, or on loan. Other ways to make money include raffle tables, and our very own and unique 'Bunny Bay'.
What is a Bunny Bay?
The MMRSC's Bunny Bay is a silent animal auction. We ask that our members, and others if they wish, to donate a high quality Mini Rex to our club to be auctioned off to earn the club money.
Animal Requirements:
ONLY Purebred rabbits allowed - 3 generation pedigree is required at point of donation. ALL rabbits are gone over to make sure that it is free of GENETIC DQ's such as, but not limited to : malocclusions, split penis, bob tail, pigeon breast etc. We have 2 categories for rabbits: Show & Brood. Show rabbits must be free of ALL DQ's, and be showable at the point of donation. They must meet weight requirements, ear length requirements, be a recognized showable color, have correctly colored nails and eyes. Brood animals can have one or more DQ's as far as a cosmetic point. Chewed ears, white spots from plucking/breeding are acceptable (and in good faith that they are not genetic). However the brood animal MUST be well typed and furred to be placed in the auction. We DO NOT want cull animals...leave these at home please! By accepting and auctioning off poor quality rabbits, we bring the overall quality of our donation animals down, causing potential bidders to shy away form our Bunny Bay...definitely something we want to avoid! Next we place the donated animal in a PROVIDED carrier and the Donor fills out a sheet indicating the animals name, age, sex, Registration & Grand Championship (if applicable), and color, and then to sign it off with their name.
We will also accept other breeds of rabbits on a limited basis, but Mini Rex are our main feature.
Let the bidding begin!
We start all of our animals out with a $5 minimum bid on their bid sheets. Bidding increases $1 each bid. Ex: If you want the rabbit, you can sign your name and put $5 next to it. Now if I came along and also liked the rabbit, I can enter my name and put in a $6 bid. Say another person comes along and REALLY likes the rabbit...if they like, they can enter their name, and put a bid in of $25. But lets say that you still really like the rabbit....you can enter ANY dollar amount over the last bid, providing that it is in an even dollar amount, and $1 over the last entered bid. The bidding continues until the close of the Bunny Bay, in which the names and monies are tallied, and the highest entered bidder wins the rabbit.
What becomes of the monies earned by the Rabbits?
ALL monies earned by the Bunny Bay go to the MMRSC treasury. We (as a club) use these monies for better awards, and more Specialty Shows. We have recently adopted a Sweepstakes program and will be giving awards for our end of year winners at the Annual PaSRBA show. We also have a tremendous interest by the membership to eventually hold a Pennsylvania based NMRRC National show, and for those of you who have attended one, and been able to appreciate the magnitude of one of these shows, you can see the massive amount of monies the hosting club needs to earn in order to make this dream a reality.
